Mitsubishi has confirmed that its Concept-cX, first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, will go into production as a baby 4x4. The Concept-cX, a compact SUV, will replace the Shogun-Pinin which went out of production in 2005. According to Mitsubishi insiders, the newcomer will closely resemble the Concept-cX.
“The model will become a new sub-Outlander model,” a senior Mitsubishi source has admitted. “It’s due to go on sale in late 2009.”
Though no final details have been confirmed publicly, it’s fair to assume the new model will keep the concept’s split tailgate and aggressive, Lancer-inspired front end. What is guaranteed is the newcomer will have permanent all-wheel drive. There will also be a range of new Euro 5-compliant diesel engines, including a new 1.8-litre, 134bhp turbocharged four-cylinder unit.
